It is alleged that on Monday, February 23, the two students of a reputed educational institution in the city were walking and talking near the Babugudde railway track when Steven and Avil suddenly approached them, hurled caste-based abuses, and attacked the boy. The miscreants also allegedly threatened the students, saying they had a ‘kiss video’ and would upload it on Facebook to defame them. They reportedly forced the minor classmates to apologise while carrying out the assault.

A video clip of the incident went viral on social media, following which a case has been registered at Mangaluru South police station. Police have launched a search to apprehend the accused Steven Monteiro and Avil. It is further alleged that while Steven was assaulting the student, Avil recorded the incident on his mobile phone.
