Mumbai, Feb 24: Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh has announced his exit as brand ambassador of the singing reality show The Universal Idol, alleging non-payment of dues by the organisers.

Taking to Instagram, the actor issued a public statement declaring his immediate withdrawal from all present and future associations with the show and its organisers.

“This is to formally announce my exit as Brand Ambassador from ‘The Universal Idol’ associated with HMC Events. Despite repeated assurances, my agreed payments were not honoured. Three cheques issued towards the same have been returned unpaid/bounced, constituting a serious breach of trust and commitment. Multiple follow-ups by my team and me personally and opportunities to resolve the matter amicably were made, unfortunately, without result,” he wrote.

He further stated that he was severing ties with Universal Idol, HMC Events, and Mr Shakeel Haasan and his associates with immediate effect.

“This note is issued in the interest of transparency and to caution fellow artists, partners, vendors, and collaborators to exercise due diligence and be mindful of claims, commitments and payment assurances made. I reserve all rights to pursue appropriate remedies available to me under law,” he added.

Neil Nitin Mukesh made his mark in Bollywood with the neo-noir thriller Johnny Gaddaar, earning praise for portraying a grey character. He later featured in films such as New York, Lafangey Parindey and Players. Over the years, he has also taken on antagonist roles in projects including Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Saaho, carving a niche with diverse and unconventional characters.

The actor is now set to make his Malayalam debut in Khalifa, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran.
