New Delhi, Feb 24: Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has strongly condemned the circulation of fabricated statements about his personal life following his second marriage to Sophie Shine, urging social media users to refrain from spreading misinformation.
Dhawan, who separated from his former wife Aesha Dhawan in October 2023, recently entered a new phase of his life by tying the knot again. However, controversy erupted after a viral social media post falsely claimed that the cricketer had remarked that his ex-wife once told him no one would marry him after she left — and that his remarriage was a fitting reply.

The veteran batter has categorically denied making any such statement.
Taking to social media, Dhawan expressed disappointment over the spread of unverified claims and emphasised that he does not carry bitterness from the past.
“I have come across some posts on social media attributing a disappointing statement about my personal life. I have never carried baggage from the past, be it on the pitch or outside. I firmly believe in the power of positivity while respecting my past,” Dhawan wrote.
“This is a new chapter in my life, and I feel truly grateful for the love and blessings I have received from my fans, friends, family, well-wishers and the media. I strongly urge people not to trade on my name with clickbait, insensitive and false statements on social media. Let’s spread love and positivity. Thank you!” he added.
His clarification has drawn widespread support from fans, many of whom praised him for addressing the issue with composure and dignity.
Dhawan had made his relationship with Sophie Shine public in May 2025 after the couple reportedly dated for over a year. The pair had earlier announced their engagement on social media in January before formalising their marriage.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Sophie is an Irish product consultant currently serving as Second Vice President – Product Consultant at Northern Trust Corporation, a US-based financial services company. Reports suggest the couple met in the UAE, where Sophie is presently based.
She holds qualifications in Marketing and Management from the Limerick Institute of Technology and completed her schooling at Castleroy College in Ireland.
Dhawan announced his retirement from international and Indian domestic cricket in August 2024, bringing the curtain down on a distinguished career. He represented India in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20 Internationals.
He played a pivotal role in India’s triumph at the ICC Champions Trophy, where he finished as the tournament’s highest run-scorer and was adjudged Player of the Tournament.
With his remarriage marking what he described as a “new chapter”, Dhawan has made it clear that he intends to move forward with gratitude and positivity, steering clear of negativity and unfounded speculation.
