Gurugram, Feb 22: A 19-year-old woman from Tripura has narrated a shocking account of alleged violence by her live-in partner in Gurugram and is currently in a critical condition at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
In her statement to the Gurugram Police, the biotechnology student alleged that her partner, identified as Shivam (19), poured sanitiser on her private parts and set it on fire following an argument over their marriage plans on February 19. She further claimed that he struck her on the head with a metal bottle, smashed it against household furniture, and attacked her with a knife.

The survivor alleged that the abuse continued for three consecutive days and that the accused forced physical relations on her on the pretext of marriage.
According to police, the woman met the accused through an online dating app in September 2025 and later moved in with him in Sector 69, Gurugram. Marriage discussions between the two families had reportedly begun.
Preliminary findings suggest that a late-night argument over marriage escalated into violence. Medical examinations have confirmed that the woman sustained multiple severe injuries.
Gurugram DCP (South) Hitesh Yadav said the survivor was initially taken to a government hospital in Gurugram in a critical condition. She was later shifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and subsequently to Safdarjung Hospital for advanced treatment due to the seriousness of her injuries.
The case came to light after the woman’s mother alerted the police. “My daughter called me and pleaded to save her from the assault,” she said, adding that she was unaware her daughter was living with the accused. The mother has demanded that charges of rape and attempt to murder also be included.
Police have arrested the accused, a resident of Delhi, and remanded him to judicial custody. An FIR has been registered under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 118(1) (causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 69 (sexual intercourse by deceitful means or false promise of marriage), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation).
Police said further investigation is underway and additional charges may be invoked based on medical findings.
