Byndoor, Feb 21: A lorry transporting cattle feed was partially gutted after it caught fire on the national highway 66 bridge between Uppunda and Bijoor during the intervening night of February 19.

The lorry was heading from Dharwad to Kundapur. Around 1:00 am, as the vehicle passed the Yadthare bypass and reached the bridge near Bijoor, a rear tyre reportedly burst. The resulting friction triggered a fire that quickly spread to the rest of the vehicle.

A significant portion of the lorry and the cattle feed load were destroyed in the blaze, resulting in a loss estimated to be worth several lacs of rupees. The driver, identified as Chandrakanth, managed to escape the vehicle in time and is reported to be safe.

Fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames, preventing further damage. Local police have visited the site and a case has been registered.
