Udupi, Feb 18: Dr Tom Devasia, professor and unit head, department of Cardiology, Kasturba Medical College and Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, has been conferred the prestigious Andreas Grüntzig Fellowship by the Academy of Cardiac Interventions, London, in recognition of his outstanding and sustained contributions to the field of interventional cardiology.
Named after Andreas Gruntzig, the pioneer of coronary angioplasty, the Andreas Gruntzig Fellowship is among the most distinguished international honours in interventional cardiology. The fellowship is awarded to clinicians who demonstrate exceptional clinical expertise, innovation, leadership, and a long-term commitment to advancing cardiovascular care.
The Academy of Cardiac Interventions in London is a globally respected professional body dedicated to promoting excellence in cardiovascular medicine through education, training, and professional recognition.




The fellowship was formally presented at a special ceremony held in Mumbai on February 8 by renowned interventional cardiologists Antonio Colombo and Bernard Meier. With this honour, Dr Devasia joins an elite group of Indian interventional cardiologists who have received the Andreas Grüntzig Fellowship and becomes one of the first full-time faculty members from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, to be so recognised.
