New Delhi, Feb 17: Actor Rajpal Yadav has spoken publicly for the first time after being released from Tihar Jail in connection with a Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case. The relief came after the Delhi High Court granted him interim bail until March 18, days after he surrendered to authorities over unpaid dues.
Soon after walking out of jail, Rajpal addressed the media and expressed gratitude to his supporters across the country and members of the film fraternity. In a video shared by ANI on X, the actor was seen with his legal team, thanking those who stood by him and stating that he remains ready to respond to the allegations.

He said he is nearing 30 years in Bollywood and credited the love and support of audiences across the country for enabling him to work in over 200 films. He added that the people of India, from children to the elderly, have always stood by him and continue to do so.
Referring to the long-running legal battle, Rajpal said the case began in 2012 and that he has appeared before the court whenever directed over the past decade. He assured that he would continue to cooperate fully and be present whenever required. He also thanked the High Court for giving him the opportunity to be heard.
The dispute dates back to 2010, when Rajpal borrowed Rs 5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata. After the film underperformed at the box office, financial difficulties followed, leading to legal proceedings.
In April 2018, a Magistrate’s Court convicted Rajpal and his wife Radha under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act after seven cheques issued to the complainant were dishonoured. He was sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment, a decision later upheld by a Sessions Court in early 2019.
The actor secured interim bail on February 16 after depositing Rs 1.5 crore with the court.
