New Zealand beat Canada by 8 wickets in T20 World Cup clash

Chennai, Feb 17: New Zealand national cricket team registered a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Canada national cricket team in their Group D encounter of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday.

Opting to bat first, Canada posted 173 for 4 in their allotted overs. Glenn Phillips top-scored with 76 runs to anchor the innings.

In reply, New Zealand chased down the 174-run target comfortably, losing just two wickets and reaching the mark in 15.1 overs. Yuvraj Sarma starred with the bat, smashing 110 runs to guide his side to victory.

Later in the day, Ireland cricket team will take on Zimbabwe national cricket team in a Group B match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium at 3.00 pm local time.

In the third fixture, Scotland national cricket team will clash with Nepal national cricket team in a Group C match at the Wankhede Stadium, beginning at 7.00 pm.

Earlier, Sri Lanka national cricket team secured a Super 8 berth with a commanding win over Australia national cricket team at Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy.

In another Group C fixture at Eden Gardens, England cricket team defeated Italy national cricket team by 24 runs. Meanwhile, Afghanistan national cricket team notched up a five-wicket win over United Arab Emirates national cricket team in a Group D match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium to register their first victory of the tournament.
