Mangaluru, Feb 10: The Kavoor police have arrested a man for allegedly marrying several women through matrimonial platforms and cheating them of lacs of rupees, along with an accomplice who aided the fraud.

The main accused has been identified as Sushanth Poojary alias Sushanth Ankush Poojary alias Sushanth G Karkera (32). The police have also arrested Bhaskar, a resident of Mulki, for his role in the scam.

The matter came to light after a woman filed a complaint stating that Sushanth had befriended her through an online matrimonial platform and married her in Navi Mumbai on February 2, 2025. After the wedding, he allegedly took Rs 6.60 lac from her in several installments before disappearing on November 15, 2025. Upon investigation, the victim discovered that he had been married previously and had cheated several other women using the same modus operandi.

Following his arrest on February 5, 2026, Sushanth confessed to a string of fraudulent activities. Investigations revealed that he had married a girl from Udupi in 2021. He also admitted to deceiving two women each from Udupi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, as well as one woman from Karkala, by promising marriage and extorting money.

Bhaskar allegedly assisted Sushanth by posing as his uncle to win the trust of the victims' families. He had even participated in the religious wedding rituals in Mumbai, representing himself as a family elder to legitimize the fraudulent marriage.

Sushanth Poojary is a habitual offender with several serious cases registered against him. These include a cheating case at Mangaluru Urwa station, a theft case at Kota station in Udupi, and a grave case at Arnal police station in Maharashtra involving charges under the POCSO Act and the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act.

Both the accused were produced before the court and have been remanded to judicial custody.

This guy is an international level fraudster. He used to stay near Chilmbi in a rented house and once cheated my friends by promising jobs and deceived them in paying thousands of rupees. I guess the Urwa police station cheating case is about it.
