Tucson, Feb 9: Investigations continued on Sunday into the alleged kidnapping of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the mother of ‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie, a week after she was reported missing from her home near Tucson, Arizona.
Savannah Guthrie, appearing solemn in a video message released on Saturday, appealed directly to the suspected kidnappers, saying her family was willing to pay for her mother’s safe return. Standing alongside her siblings, she said the family had received a message and stressed that bringing her mother back was their only path to peace. “This is very valuable to us, and we will pay,” she said.

An FBI spokesperson later confirmed that Guthrie was referring to a message sent to Tucson-based television station KOLD on Friday. The station declined to disclose details, citing an ongoing FBI review.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, detectives and federal agents continued follow-up investigations at multiple locations. However, authorities said no suspects, persons of interest, or vehicles linked to the case have been identified so far.
Sheriff’s vehicles were seen at Nancy Guthrie’s residence around midday Sunday, with officers spending over 20 minutes at the back of the house before leaving without commenting.
Investigators believe Nancy Guthrie was taken against her will from her home last weekend. Sheriff Chris Nanos earlier confirmed that DNA testing matched blood found on her front porch to Guthrie.
Several media outlets have reportedly received alleged ransom letters over the past week, some containing monetary demands and deadlines. While law enforcement has not confirmed the authenticity of these letters, officials said all leads are being examined seriously.
The case has drawn nationwide attention, with candles and messages of support placed outside Guthrie’s home. The White House also confirmed that President Donald Trump spoke with Savannah Guthrie last week, later telling reporters that investigators had uncovered “very strong” clues.
Authorities expressed growing concern for Nancy Guthrie’s health, noting that she requires daily medication, has a pacemaker, and suffers from high blood pressure and heart-related conditions.
The video released on Saturday marked the third public appeal made by the family this week, as hopes remain focused on her safe return.
