Kasargod, Feb 2: An 18-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed to death by her father following a domestic dispute at Kunjathur Hill Top near Manjeshwar on Monday, February 2 evening.

The deceased has been identified as Mariyam Jumaila, a Plus Two student. Her father, Ummar Farooq, has been taken into custody by Manjeshwar police.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 6 pm. Ummar Farooq and his family were staying at the house of his sister-in-law. A dispute over property had reportedly been ongoing between Ummar Farooq and his sister-in-law’s husband. During a heated argument, Ummar allegedly attempted to attack his brother-in-law with a sharp weapon. When Jumaila intervened to stop the assault, she was stabbed.

Jumaila sustained serious injuries to her neck and leg and was rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru. However, she succumbed to her injuries despite treatment. The brother-in-law, identified as Sheikh Kunhi, also sustained injuries in the incident.

Local residents who rushed to the spot after hearing screams found Jumaila lying in a pool of blood. Though she was immediately shifted to the hospital, her life could not be saved.

Police sources said the accused is a drug addict. The knife used in the crime has been seized, and the accused is being interrogated for further details. Police have registered a case and are continuing the investigation. After conducting the mahazar, the body was shifted to the taluk hospital for postmortem.

It was an accidental incident, but the man cannot go unpunished. Whatever the punishment Umar Farooq will not be able to live in peace, but agony may destroy him as time passes. Short temper or uncontrolled aggression works in bad way in favour favor of against self.
