Mangaluru: Burglars force entry into Kinnigoli house, decamp with gold and cash

Mangaluru, Feb 2: Burglars broke into the residence of small-scale businessman Pavan Kumar at Kinnigoli by forcing open the main door and fled with gold ornaments and cash in an incident reported from the Mulki police station limits.

The burglary is said to have taken place when the family had stepped out due to a medical emergency, leaving the house unattended. Taking advantage of the situation, the burglars allegedly broke open the main door, entered the house, forced open an almirah and made away with gold jewellery and cash kept inside.

Although no physical harm was reported, the incident has caused serious concern as Pavan Kumar’s elderly mother resides alone in the house. “More than the financial loss, the safety of our mother is our biggest concern,” family members said, expressing anxiety over her security.

Following the incident, a complaint was lodged at the Mulki Police Station, and an investigation has been initiated. On Monday, forensic experts and a police dog squad visited the spot and carried out a detailed inspection.

Police suspect that the burglars may be persons familiar with the household and the family’s routine, and efforts are under way to identify and trace the accused.

With a noticeable rise in similar burglary cases in recent days, members of the public have called for heightened security measures, especially for homes where elderly persons live alone. Police have assured that the accused will be apprehended at the earliest.
