Panaji, Feb 1: The Union Budget 2026–27 has been pitched as a balanced roadmap for economic expansion, with a clear emphasis on growth-oriented reforms and the broader goal of building a developed India. A key highlight of the Budget is its focus on tourism, a sector considered vital for national growth and particularly significant for states like Goa.
In addition to measures aimed at strengthening the tourism ecosystem, the Budget underscores the importance of preserving and promoting local culture and traditions. It also places strong emphasis on skilling the youth, viewing human capital development as a cornerstone for long-term, sustainable economic progress.

The Budget has found support among Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant, the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and several BJP MLAs and ministers, who said the proposals would help energise the economy and open up new avenues for employment and investment.
However, the response has not been unanimous. Opposition leaders voiced criticism, arguing that the Budget falls short in addressing pressing public welfare concerns and does not adequately reflect the specific needs of local communities.
The divergent reactions underline a familiar divide, with the ruling side highlighting growth and opportunity, while critics press for a sharper focus on inclusivity and grassroots impact.
