Mangaluru, Jan 31: The Pro-Am Mangaluru Cup, India’s first-ever floodlit Pro-Am golf tournament, will be held today from 4 pm to 9 pm at Pilikula Golf Club, Mangaluru. Details of the prestigious event were announced at a press conference held at the venue on Saturday.
The tournament will feature 10 competitive teams comprising professional and amateur golfers.
Addressing the media, Manoj Kumar Shetty, captain of Pilikula Golf Club, said the initiative is aimed at taking golf in Mangaluru to the next level. “This is not just Pro-Am 2.0; we are already looking ahead to 3.0 and several bigger developments for golf in the region. Our vision is to make Pilikula a premier golfing destination in India,” he said.
He further stated that multiple long-term projects are in the pipeline to strengthen infrastructure, nurture young talent, and attract national and international tournaments to the city.
Other dignitaries present at the press meet expressed confidence that the Pro-Am Mangaluru Cup would open new avenues for sports tourism and help generate greater awareness of golf among the youth.
The tournament is being organised under the guidance of PGC president Darshan H V, IAS, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, with the objective of promoting golf in the region and creating a strong competitive ecosystem for emerging players.
A major highlight of the event will be the participation of renowned professional golfers, who will compete alongside amateurs and also mentor them.
The professional line-up includes Aman Raj, Aryan Roopa Anand, Divyanshu Bajaj, M Dharma, Aalaap I L, Yashas Chandra M S, Udayan Mane, Khalin Joshi, Sneha Singh, Avani Prashanth, Chikkarangappa S, and Samarth Dwivedi.
The tournament will be conducted in an innovative auction-based Pro-Am format, offering amateur golfers a rare opportunity to play alongside top professionals. The addition of floodlit play is expected to significantly enhance the excitement and visibility of the sport, providing a unique experience for players and spectators alike.
The event is being organised by Pilikula Golf Club in association with D5 Sports and Callaway, who have ensured all arrangements for the smooth conduct of the tournament.
