Bengaluru, Jan 30: Real estate entrepreneur and Confident Group chairman C J Roy died by suicide after shooting himself at his office located in Langford Town on Hosur Road in the city. Ashoknagar police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. Roy’s body was later shifted to Narayana Hospital in Anekal for further procedures.

C J Roy, who founded the real estate firm Confident Group, is suspected to have taken the extreme step due to repeated income tax raids. It is alleged that Income Tax department officials were conducting a raid at his office on Friday as well, during which the incident occurred.

According to information available, Income Tax officials carried out a raid at the Langford Town office on Friday morning. Roy arrived at the office around noon and faced questioning by the officials for about an hour. He reportedly handed over certain documents to them. He later went to another room, stating that he would bring additional documents, during which time he is believed to have shot himself. He succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to the hospital.

Deputy commissioner of police Akshay personally supervised the investigation and has seized the firearm used in the incident. CCTV footage from the office room is being examined. Police are also probing whether any death note was left, or if there were any messages on his mobile phone, and are investigating the case from all possible angles.

Originally from Kerala, C J Roy began his career as an ordinary individual and was employed with an HP company in 1997. He later ventured into the real estate business, eventually building the Confident Group into a major enterprise. Starting with real estate activities involving 30 to 40 sites, he went on to acquire nearly 1,000 acres of land over the years.

Following the incident, Income Tax officials who had conducted the raid at the Confident Group office returned from the premises. The officials, who had arrived in the morning, reportedly left in two vehicles, numbering around ten personnel.
