Mangaluru, Jan 27: St Joseph Natak Sangh marked a monumental milestone as it celebrated its 100th anniversary (Shatamanotsav) with a grand event held at the St Joseph Natak Sangh premises. The celebration brought together religious leaders, community dignitaries and parishioners to honour a century of service, faith and community building.
Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha and other dignitaries were received by the committee members, accompanied by the renowned Jeppu Brass Band, and were brought to the venue in a procession.














































The event commenced with a prayer dance. Fr Maxim D'Souza, parish priest, cordially welcomed the gathering. This was followed by the lighting of the sacred lamp. The president of SJNS, Michael D'Souza, briefed the audience on the humble beginnings and the rich contribution of Jesuit priests to SJNS. A solemn tribute was paid to the departed directors and office bearers. All former office bearers were felicitated, and special recognition was bestowed on the late Wify Rebimbus, Edwin Netto, Vijay Alfred and Jacintha Alfred, acknowledging their guidance to the youth and the parish.
The significant highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the renovation master plan. Led by the development committee, the plan outlines the modernisation of SJNS facilities to better serve the community in the coming decades.
The formal stage programme was presided over by Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, who lauded St Joseph Natak Sangh for its unwavering commitment to Christian values and social welfare over the past hundred years.
Other distinguished guests on the stage included Roy Castelino, PRO of the Mangaluru diocese; Corrine Rasquinha, director of White Doves; Fr Andrew D'Costa, manager of St Joseph Asylum Industrial Workshop; Sr Irene Menezes, provincial superior of the Sisters of Charity; Fr Rajesh Rosario, rector of St Joseph Seminary; Fr Maxim D'Souza, parish priest; Denis Apus, vice president of the parish council; Anitha Aranha, secretary of the parish council; Michael D'Souza, president of SJNS; and Shalet D'Souza, secretary of SJNS.
Roy Castelino commended the contribution of SJNS in bringing out talents that have been making their mark in society.
Corrine Rasquinha reminisced about her journey that began with Meena Night 50 years ago and assured her support to SJNS.
To commemorate the journey of SJNS, a special documentary video was screened, detailing the evolution of the Natak Sangh from its humble beginnings to its current status as a vital community institution.
The celebration concluded with a vibrant cultural programme showcased by parish youth, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by secretary Shalet D'Souza.
The event served as both a reflection on a glorious past and a hopeful launchpad for the next century of service.
