Muscat, Jan 27: A boating excursion turned tragic off the coast of Oman on Tuesday after a vessel carrying French tourists capsized near Muscat, leaving three people dead and triggering a large-scale rescue operation.
The incident occurred in the Wilayat of Muttrah in the Muscat Governorate during a guided tour. The boat was carrying 25 French nationals, along with a local tour guide and the vessel’s captain, when it overturned in coastal waters.

Emergency response teams from Oman’s Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority rushed to the scene and provided immediate medical aid to the passengers. Authorities confirmed that three tourists lost their lives in the accident. Two others suffered minor injuries and were treated on site before being discharged, while the remaining passengers were rescued safely.
The Royal Oman Police said an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the capsizing, adding that maritime authorities are also involved in the inquiry. The circumstances leading to the incident are still being examined.
Omani officials said arrangements are being made to assist the survivors and to support the families of the deceased as the investigation continues.
