Beltangady, Jan 26: A leopard roaming the Nadakanyadi area of Belthangady taluk has been successfully captured in a trap set up by the forest department, ending weeks of fear and uncertainty among local residents.
To track and capture the elusive predator, the department formed a special team, identified the leopard’s movement patterns, and installed special traps across multiple locations in the taluk. Officials confirmed that the operation was ultimately successful, with one leopard safely secured.

“The leopard had been moving extensively in this area, and there were earlier reports of attacks on a local resident and several domestic animals,” said a forest official.
“Its presence had created considerable anxiety among villagers. Our team worked meticulously to ensure it was captured safely and without harm,.” the official added.
Residents welcomed the capture, relieved that the danger posed by the rogue leopard had been removed.
Authorities emphasised that the operation had been carried out with maximum safety for both humans and wildlife.
