Udupi, Jan 22: Herbotrim, an Ayurvedic formulation developed in India, has received a 20-year national patent, reaffirming the scientific foundation of Ayurveda. Laboratory studies approved by the central government have validated the tablet’s effectiveness in managing excess body fat and associated lifestyle disorders, according to an official statement from the institution.
Herbotrim tablets work by dissolving excess fat accumulated in vital organs of the body and converting it into energy. Through this mechanism, the formulation helps address health conditions linked to obesity, including diabetes, high blood pressure, bone-related disorders, hardening of blood vessels, paralysis, and heart attacks.

Clinical evaluations have confirmed that Herbotrim supports lipid regulation by increasing beneficial cholesterol (HDL) while reducing harmful cholesterol components such as LDL and VLDL. The formulation has also been found effective in alleviating fatty liver conditions. These medicinal properties have been verified in laboratories recognized and approved by the central government.
Unlike several weight-loss drugs currently used worldwide, Herbotrim has been shown to have no adverse side effects. This has been established through experimental studies conducted at leading university research centres.
Herbotrim had earlier secured a patent in the United States, and the recent grant of an Indian patent further strengthens the credibility of Ayurveda’s scientific base. The formulation was developed nearly three decades ago by Dr M Vijayabhanu Shetty at his Muniyal Ayurveda Research Centre.
With studies indicating that nearly one in four people in India is affected by obesity, the institution stated that the relevance and importance of this treatment continue to grow in the present health scenario.
