Bengaluru, Jan 20: Director general of police (Civil Rights Enforcement) K Ramachandra Rao has been suspended after several videos allegedly showing him in compromising situations with women surfaced on social media on Monday.
The unverified footage purportedly shows Rao with women in what appears to be his office premises. In addition, some audio clips have also gone viral, in which he is allegedly heard speaking to women in an inappropriate manner.
According to the suspension order, Rao is accused of behaving in an ‘obscene manner unbecoming of a government servant’ and of causing embarrassment to the state government. The order states that the government is convinced his conduct amounts to a violation of service rules.

“The state government is prima facie satisfied that it is necessary to place Dr K Ramachandra Rao, director general of police, directorate of civil rights enforcement, under suspension with immediate effect, pending inquiry,” the order said.
It further stated that during the suspension period, Rao is not permitted to leave the headquarters under any circumstances without prior written permission from the state government.
Meanwhile, the senior police officer appeared before the media and categorically denied all allegations. Terming it a ‘systematic conspiracy’ aimed at damaging his reputation, he alleged that the video was part of a larger plot against him.
Reacting to the viral clip, Ramachandra Rao said that he too had watched the video and asserted that it was entirely fake. He claimed the footage had either been created or manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI). “Certain vested interests are behind this conspiracy to tarnish my professional career and assassinate my character,” he said.
While Ramachandra Rao has maintained that the video is edited and AI-generated, arguments are also being raised that the visuals and the location seen in the video closely resemble his office premises. In view of these conflicting claims, there is a growing demand that the video be sent to a forensic science laboratory (FSL) for a detailed examination to ascertain its authenticity.
The government has reportedly taken the matter seriously, and there is a possibility of ordering a high-level investigation into the incident to uncover the truth behind the viral video.
