Karkala: Novena prayers begin ahead of St Lawrence Annual Feast 2026 at Attur Basilica

Karkala, Jan 18: The nine-day Novena prayers were inaugurated ahead of the annual feast of St Lawrence Minor Basilica, Attur on Sunday, Jan 18.

The novena prayers commenced in a prayerful and devotional manner at the historic St Lawrence Basilica, Attur, alongside the celebrations of the feast of St Sebastian.

The nine-day novena was formally inaugurated by Fr Steven Fernandes, youth director of ICYM–YCS of the Udupi diocese, who lit the ceremonial lamp marking the beginning of the spiritual celebrations. The inaugural day began with the Holy Eucharistic celebration, drawing a large gathering of devotees from various places.

Fr Alban D’Souza, director of the St Lawrence Shrine, presided over the celebrations, accompanied by assistant parish priest Fr Robin Santhumayer. Also present on the occasion were vice president Santosh D’Silva, secretary Ronald Noronha, newly elected vice president Vandesh Mathias, and newly elected secretary Melwyn Castelino.

The faithful participated with deep devotion, seeking the blessings of St Lawrence. The annual feast will be held from Jan 25 to 29. Special eucharistic celebrations will be celebrated during this period. A total of 45 Eucharistic celebrations will be celebrated during the festal days.
