Udupi, Jan 18: Deputy Commissioner of Udupi Swaroopa T K, has clarified her official role in connection with the Paryaya Utsava of the Udupi Sri Krishna Math, held on Sunday, January 18.

In a statement to the public, the deputy commissioner said that at 3 am on the day of the celebrations, she had formally inaugurated the Pura Pravesha ceremony of the Swamiji, adding that her participation was entirely in her official capacity as administrator of the Udupi City Municipality.

She further stated that she was present for the civic felicitation of the newly appointed pontiffs and attended the Darbar programme held after the Swamiji ascended the Sarvajna Peetha.

Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T K categorically clarified that her presence at these religious and ceremonial events was purely administrative and official, and not influenced by or associated with any political considerations. She said the clarification was issued to prevent any misunderstanding among the public.

The statement follows the circulation of visuals on social media showing the Deputy Commissioner flagging off the Paryaya procession, where the flag displayed religious symbols, which had raised questions regarding the nature of her participation.
