Mumbai, Jan 17: Shiv Sena has convened a three-day orientation programme for its 29 newly elected corporators in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), aimed at preparing them for governance, city development and long-term planning for Mumbai.
Yuva Sena general secretary and corporator Amey Ghole said the workshop, being held at a five-star hotel in the city, will focus on familiarising corporators with the functioning of the BMC, execution of the party’s election promises and framing a clear development roadmap for the next five years.

Deputy chief minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde will personally mentor the corporators during the camp, Ghole said. Senior party leaders are also scheduled to address the participants over the three days, offering guidance on administrative procedures and effective ward-level governance.
According to Ghole, Shinde had directed the corporators to begin work immediately after the election results to live up to the mandate given by voters. Acting on his instructions, the corporators attended the guidance camp the very next day after the results were declared.
Apart from municipal governance, discussions during the workshop will also cover political strategy and preparations for the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections. Ghole added that the post of Mumbai Mayor will go to the Mahayuti alliance, with a final decision to be taken by senior leaders of the allied parties.
Shiv Sena has registered significant gains in municipal corporation elections across Maharashtra, winning a total of 397 corporator seats. These include 29 in Mumbai, 75 in Thane, 54 in Kalyan-Dombivli, 42 in Navi Mumbai, 36 in Ulhasnagar, 26 in Nashik, 22 in Jalgaon, 15 in Kolhapur, 13 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and 12 in Jalna.
Ghole said the party’s performance reflects public confidence in Shiv Sena and the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Shinde.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena issued a clarification following media reports suggesting that the corporators were moved to a luxury hotel to prevent poaching ahead of the mayoral election. While stating that there was no immediate threat, the party said the move was a precautionary measure to keep the elected members together.
In the 227-member BMC, the BJP with 89 corporators and Shiv Sena with 29 have together crossed the halfway mark of 114, strengthening the Mahayuti alliance’s position ahead of the mayoral polls.
