Mangaluru, Jan 14: For the first time in the history of the diocese of Mangalore, the St Anthony Devotion Trust, Jeppu, is organising ‘Ga Thu Jibe’ (Sing, O Tongue), a diocesan-level grand Konkani Group Singing Competition dedicated exclusively to the hymns of St Anthony of Padua. The event is scheduled for Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the St Anthony Ashram, Jeppu.
Organised as a spiritual preparation for the upcoming Feast of the Relic of St Anthony (celebrated in February), this unique initiative aims to revive ancient traditional hymns and encourage new musical compositions honouring the 'Wonder Worker' of Padua.






Celebration of Sacred Music
Choirs and groups from various parishes, religious houses, and educational institutions across the diocese will congregate at Jeppu to perform. The competition will feature a mix of traditional devotional hymns and original compositions, promising an evening of high-quality choral harmony.
Bishop to preside over valedictory
The competition will commence at 3:15 pm. The grand finale, including the valedictory and prize distribution ceremony, will be held at 6:45 pm.
Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore, will grace the occasion as the president of the ceremony and will distribute the awards to the winners.
Prizes: To encourage the teams, the organisers have announced attractive cash prizes with trophies:
First prize: Rs 25,000
Second prize: Rs 20,000
Third prize: Rs 15,000
Along with 10 consolation prizes.

Fr Praveen Amrith Martis, Administrator of St Anthony Ashram and the programme coordinator, stated that extensive arrangements have been made to ensure a professional and spiritually uplifting environment for all participants.
