Mira-Bhayandar, Jan 14: A 14-year-old minor girl was allegedly gang-raped inside a four-wheeler on a public road in Mira-Bhayandar city, police said on Wednesday. The accused allegedly intoxicated the girl with cannabis pills and alcohol before committing the crime.

According to police, the victim, who resides with her family in the Mira Road area, went missing on the night of January 5 after trusting her friend, identified as Salman Khan (21). He allegedly forced her into a car and took her to a less crowded stretch near L R Tiwari College Road. Another accused, identified as Sardarji (24), was also present in the vehicle.

Police said the accused first forced the minor to consume cannabis pills. When she remained conscious, they allegedly made her consume alcohol, after which she lost consciousness. The two accused then allegedly took turns raping the girl inside the vehicle.

The victim informed her family about the incident the following day, after which a complaint was lodged at the Mira Road police station on Tuesday. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections, including provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Acting swiftly, police launched a search operation and arrested both accused on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident comes shortly after a separate case of sexual assault involving a minor employee at the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation headquarters, raising concerns over women’s and children’s safety in the city.

Further investigation is underway.
