Karkala, Jan 11: Karkala police have arrested two persons in connection with the theft of copper cladding installed on the roof of the Parashurama Theme Park building located on Ummikal Hill at Bailoor.
The arrested have been identified as Arif alias Munna (37) of Church Gudde, Kalavaru, Mangaluru, and Abdul Hameed (32) of Kavoor, Mangaluru, police said.



According to police, the accused allegedly broke open the main door of the park building on January 3, trespassed inside and stole the copper cladding fixed on the roof. A case in this regard had been registered at the Karkala city police station.
Taking the seriousness of the case into account, Udupi district superintendent of police Hariram Shankar formed three special teams to trace the accused. Following sustained searches across Udupi district, Dakshina Kannada district and Mangaluru city, the special teams successfully arrested the accused.
Police recovered 51 kg of stolen copper cladding worth Rs 45,000, two ceiling fans worth Rs 1,200, a goods autorickshaw valued at Rs 1 lac used in the crime and a motorcycle worth Rs 70,000 from the accused. Efforts are on to trace other accused who are absconding.
Police said Arif has more than nine criminal cases registered against him at Padubidri, Udupi city, Brahmavar, Karkala rural and Mulki Moodbidri police stations. Abdul Hameed has cases registered against him at Bajpe and Moodbidri police stations.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of Karkala subdivision in-charge deputy superintendent of police Prabhu D T, with Karkala city police station inspector Manjappa D R, sub-inspectors Murulidhara Naik, Shivakumar S R, Karkala rural sub-inspectors Prasanna Kumar M S and Sundar, along with staff Ranjeeth Kumar Shetty, Sadashiva Shetty, Gopalakrishna, Chandrashekar, Satish, Pradeep, Shivananda, Lokesh, Mahatesh, Santosh Goniyappanavar, Srinivas, Anand, Santosh, Archana, drivers Ashok Kumar and Prasad, and district RD cell staff Dinesh participating in the operation.
