Vice President hails NCC’s nation-building role at Republic Day camp 2026 inauguration

New Delhi, Jan 5: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Monday inaugurated the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp 2026, underscoring the organisation’s crucial contribution to shaping disciplined, confident and service-oriented youth for the nation’s future.

Addressing the DGNCC Camp at Delhi Cantonment as the Chief Guest, the Vice President lauded the NCC’s long-standing role in youth development, describing it as a cornerstone in the journey towards a developed India. Referring to the NCC motto “Unity and Discipline,” he said the organisation continues to nurture value-based leadership that will form the foundation of Viksit Bharat@2047.

Radhakrishnan highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, noting that the goal of a developed India can only be achieved through empowered youth equipped with skills, discipline and a spirit of service—an area where the NCC plays an indispensable role.

Recalling the NCC’s contribution during Operation Sindoor, he said nearly 72,000 cadets had volunteered for civil defence duties, reflecting their dedication, courage and readiness to serve the nation in challenging times. He also acknowledged the cadets’ involvement in disaster relief operations, stating that their actions exemplify responsibility and national commitment.

Emphasising the importance of Republic Day, the Vice President said the Republic Day Camp mirrors the constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. He noted that cadets from different states and Union Territories living and training together symbolise India’s unity in diversity and the promise of future leadership.

He further praised NCC cadets for their achievements in adventure activities, international youth exchange programmes, environmental initiatives and disaster response efforts, including their commendable service during the Wayanad floods in Kerala.

Earlier, upon his arrival at the camp, the Vice President was presented with a Guard of Honour by NCC cadets. He visited the Hall of Fame, where he was briefed on the organisation’s history, achievements and growth over the years. He also toured exhibition stalls showcasing initiatives such as the YUVA Aapda Mitra Scheme and drone training programmes, appreciating the NCC’s focus on disaster preparedness and emerging technologies. The visit concluded with a cultural programme by the cadets, followed by an interaction in which he commended their discipline, enthusiasm and patriotic spirit.

The Republic Day camp 2026 is hosting 2,406 cadets, including 127 from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and 131 from the Northeast region. In addition, cadets and officers from 25 friendly countries are participating under the Youth Exchange Programme.

Several dignitaries, including the defence minister, Delhi chief minister, defence secretary, chief of Defence Staff and the chiefs of the army, navy and air force, are expected to visit the camp. The series of activities will culminate in the Prime Minister’s rally scheduled for January 28.
