Morjim, Dec 31: Authorities on Monday carried out limited demolition at the allegedly illegal La Alphonso Marina Resorts and Spa in Morjim, razing only a few structures, even as the larger portions of the project remain standing. Critics have described the move as a token exercise, raising questions about the seriousness of enforcement.
According to officials, the demolition squad, acting on directions from the district collector, demolished a security cabin, a generator room, and a few temporary structures. However, no further action was reported on Tuesday despite earlier indications that the drive would continue.

An official involved in the operation admitted that the action so far was partial, citing a “confusing” demolition order that lacked clarity on the exact structures to be removed. “We will be seeking clarity from higher authorities on what precisely is to be demolished,” he said, adding that the drive has not been halted and a report will be submitted to the deputy collector.
The limited demolition has drawn sharp criticism from complainant Sagardeep Sirsaikar, who has been pursuing the matter with regulatory authorities. He has written to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), urging strict compliance with its directives and a detailed report on the work carried out. “What has been done so far does not reflect the scale of violations identified. This appears more cosmetic than corrective,” Sirsaikar said.
The La Alphonso Marina Resorts and Spa project has been under scrutiny for alleged large-scale violations, including unauthorised construction in a sensitive coastal zone. Despite repeated demolition orders, major portions of the complex remain intact, highlighting a persistent gap between regulatory directives and ground-level enforcement.
