Tehran, Dec 29: Iran’s former foreign minister Javad Zarif has accused Israel, with backing from the United States, of systematically destroying every opportunity for peace, saying recent attacks have shattered faith in diplomacy.
Speaking to journalist Steve Clemons, Zarif said that confidence in dialogue collapsed after Israel and the US attacked Iran despite five rounds of reconciliation talks between Washington and Tehran. “Everybody lost any faith in diplomacy,” he remarked, describing the strikes as a turning point that derailed prospects for engagement.

Months after those attacks, Iran has once again come under pressure, with Israeli officials reportedly lobbying US President Donald Trump to take action against Tehran’s ballistic missile programme.
Zarif alleged that Israel has historically worked to block any reconciliation between Iran and the United States, arguing that diplomatic openings have repeatedly been sabotaged. He was also critical of Trump’s approach to foreign policy, stating that his style of diplomacy is dangerous and often results in “negotiations that end up in war.”
The remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and renewed uncertainty over the future of US-Iran relations, with diplomatic channels appearing increasingly fragile.
