Karavali Utsava 2025 soars with chopper joyrides; sports fest, Police Kala Vaibhava add festive buzz

Mangaluru, Dec 27: Karavali Utsava 2025, which commenced in Dakshina Kannada district, took off on a high note with the launch of a helicopter joyride service, adding a major attraction to the coastal festival celebrations.

The helicopter ride, branded as ‘Heli Ride’, has been launched from Sultan Battery in Mangaluru as part of the festivities.

The fare for the joyride has been fixed at Rs 3,500 per person, with each trip accommodating a maximum of five passengers. Each ride lasts approximately seven minutes. The service will operate daily from 10.30 am to 1 pm and again from 2.30 pm to 5 pm.

Deputy Commissioner Darshan H V, speaking at the launch, said the initiative offers both residents and tourists a refreshing escape from routine life. “Take a brief break from daily stress and enjoy a helicopter ride for breathtaking views of Mangaluru’s scenic beaches, picturesque locations and the vast coastal landscape. Flying high offers a unique perspective of the city’s beauty,” he said.

The helicopter ride provides passengers with panoramic aerial views of Mangaluru’s coastline, prominent scenic spots and the surrounding coastal terrain, making it a memorable experience and one of the key highlights of Karavali Utsava. Interested visitors can book their rides online through the official website heli.dakshinakannada.org, according to an official release.

Karavali Sports Festival at Ullal Beach

Adding to the festive spirit, a Karavali Sports Festival will be organised at Ullal Beach as part of the celebrations. The event is being jointly conducted by the Dakshina Kannada district administration, the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, the Dakshina Kannada District Volleyball Association, the Dakshina Kannada District Football Association, and the district unit of the Karnataka State Physical Education Teachers’ Association.

On Saturday, beach volleyball matches were held for boys and girls in the under-17 high school category. On December 28, the festival will feature beach volleyball and football matches for men and women, along with traditional coastal games such as lagori and tug-of-war.

Winners of the Karavali Sports Festival will be honoured with attractive trophies and cash prizes. The organising committee has appealed to high school students as well as men and women from across Dakshina Kannada district to participate in large numbers.

Police Kala Vaibhava

Meanwhile, as part of the ongoing Karavali Utsava celebrations, Police Kala Vaibhava, organised by the Mangaluru City Police, was held at the Karavali Utsava ground on Saturday from 6 pm onwards.

The programme featured performances by police bands and various cultural events. Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H will inaugurate the programme, adding to the cultural vibrancy of the festival.
