Madhya Pradesh, Dec 27: Cracking the Civil Services Examination (CSE) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) remains a cherished dream for lakhs of aspirants across the country. For many, the path is marked by repeated attempts, self-doubt and uncertainty. One such journey, shaped by perseverance and resilience, is that of Abhishek Sharma, who secured All India Rank 38 in the UPSC CSE 2024.
Hailing from a small town, Abhishek completed his schooling at a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Madhya Pradesh, where his father Ashok Sharma serves as an English teacher. With aspirations of entering the Indian Administrative Service, Abhishek began his UPSC preparation with strong self-belief. However, his first two attempts did not yield success, largely due to complacency and a lack of seriousness in approach.

The consecutive failures left him disheartened and close to abandoning his goal. It was at this juncture that support from his family and friends played a decisive role in helping him regain confidence. Drawing inspiration from literature, particularly a Hindi poem by poet Arjun Sisodia that speaks about the importance of facing life’s battles, Abhishek found renewed motivation to continue his preparation with greater focus and discipline.
Restarting his journey with a more grounded mindset, he worked on correcting past mistakes, strengthening his fundamentals and maintaining consistency. Physics was his optional subject, and he ensured a balanced approach between optional preparation, general studies and current affairs. His renewed efforts eventually paid off when he cleared the examination with an impressive AIR 38.
Sharing his experience, Abhishek emphasised that aspirants should focus on completing daily targets rather than measuring preparation in terms of hours studied. Consistency, he said, is crucial. He also underlined the importance of linking current affairs with static portions of the syllabus and regularly revising core concepts.
Reflecting on moments of self-doubt, he noted that the sacrifices made by parents and well-wishers served as a constant reminder to stay committed. According to him, inspiration, sustained hard work and a strong support system are key elements in navigating the demanding UPSC preparation journey.
Abhishek Sharma’s story stands as a reminder that setbacks are often stepping stones, and that perseverance, when combined with clarity of purpose, can turn long-held dreams into reality.
