Udupi, Dec 19: A one-day workshop titled “CyberShe – Empowering Women in Cyber Security” was conducted on December 19 at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal.
The program was jointly organized by the IEEE Student Branch SMVITM, IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE), Women Empowerment Cell of SMVITM, and IEEE WIE Bengaluru Section, with the objective of creating awareness and encouraging women students to pursue careers in cybersecurity.


The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Ranjith Kolkar, assistant professor, Department of Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Goa. In his address, he provided valuable insights into the fundamentals of cybersecurity, common cyber threats, cyber forensics, and the expanding career opportunities in the field. He shared real-world case studies and emphasized continuous upskilling, ethical practices, and the vital contribution women can make in securing digital ecosystems.
Dr Nagaraj Bhat, principal, SMVITM, in his address, highlighted the growing importance of cybersecurity in today’s digitally connected world and encouraged women students to actively pursue careers in emerging and high-impact technological domains. He appreciated the efforts of IEEE and WIE in creating inclusive platforms that empower women through technical knowledge and leadership opportunities.
In the presidential address, Dr Radhakrishna S Aithal, CEO, Sode Group of Institutions, Udupi emphasized the role of institutions in nurturing technically competent and ethically responsible engineers, and stressed the need for women to take leadership roles in cybersecurity, digital forensics, and allied research areas. He also lauded the collaborative efforts of IEEE Student Branch SMVITM and IEEE WIE Bengaluru Section in organizing such impactful programs.
