Sharjah, Dec 10: Konkan Udkana 2025, organised by United Loretto Friends (ULF), Dubai, concluded on an exceptional note as thousands gathered at the Sharjah Wanderers Sports Club to celebrate culture, unity, and community spirit. Held on November 23 the event once again demonstrated why it remains one of the most anticipated and well-loved cultural festivals for the Konkani community in the UAE, offering a full day of entertainment, competitions, and unforgettable performances that brought families, friends, and well-wishers together under one vibrant roof.
The festivities commenced with an inspiring inaugural ceremony featuring blessings, the unveiling of trophies, and a compelling keynote address delivered by Fr Edwin Monis of St Michael’s Church, Sharjah. The formal oath-taking, led by Vinod Pinto, ULF Core team member, along with all team captains, set the tone for a day defined by fair play, unity, and collective enthusiasm.























































The ceremony stood out for its distinguished presence. The event was honored by Kushel and Leena, managing partners of KLM Group and the respected title sponsors, whose participation elevated the significance of the programme. Additional esteemed dignitaries included James Mendonca and Lancy D’Souza, each of whom has been a pillar of encouragement to ULF’s mission. Before the commencement of competitions, every team captain was presented with a special memento as a gesture of appreciation and recognition.
This edition witnessed the participation of 27 dynamic teams, each bringing unmatched energy, dedication, and sportsmanship. The grounds were filled with electrifying enthusiasm as players competed fiercely yet respectfully, embodying the true essence of Udkana. Tru Events team AB emerged as the proud champions, while Merit Freight and Falcon Trackers Matthikkatte United A jointly secured the runners-up title. Team Shalom followed as the second runners-up, showcasing admirable consistency throughout the games.
The event also extended its spirit of inclusion to the younger generation, with specially curated games for children across different age categories. Their lively participation added joy and colour to the event, reflecting ULF’s continued focus on creating platforms for families and youth.
As the sun set, the celebrations transitioned into a spectacular evening programme hosted by the sensational VJ Dixon, who travelled from India exclusively for the show. His electrifying stage presence, humour, and audience engagement kept the crowd energised from start to finish.
The musical segment reached its pinnacle with a breathtaking performance by Prajoth D’Sa, whose powerful vocals and charismatic presence left the audience spellbound. Band Open High delivered an energetic live music set, while DJ Norman kept the beats going late into the night, ensuring a joyful and festive ambience.
Adding cultural richness, the evening showcased mesmerizing performances by African drummers and the dynamic Pili Nalike Dubai troupe, bringing global and regional flavours to the stage. A dedicated kids’ zone further ensured a wholesome family experience for attendees of all ages.
One of the event’s most awaited moments was the Baila King & Queen 2025 Competition. After a thrilling display of dance talent, Merwyn and Diyana were crowned the winners. The competition also celebrated the impressive performances of the other finalist couples: Ivan & Sunitha, Alson & Sushmita, and Chris & Shaleena. The judging panel Ritesh and Sylvia Penha offered professional evaluation and later delivered a special dance performance alongside Ritesh’s academy students, creating an unforgettable moment. Adding to the evening’s excitement, multiple lucky-draw gifts were presented by host VJ Dixon.
Konkan Udkana 2025 received remarkable support from partners and sponsors who played a vital role in the success of the festival. The culinary offerings were elevated by Kebab Bistro, which curated an exclusive VIP menu, while Udupi Restaurant and Pao De Goa delighted guests with authentic flavours.
Media, printing, and advertising partners amplified the festival’s presence across the UAE, while broadway events, the official technical partner, ensured world-class stage production, lighting, sound, and technical execution.
This year’s edition introduced several well-received enhancements, including improved LED stage visuals, audience interaction rounds, spot games, volunteer appreciation segments, and eco-friendly guidelines a reflection of ULF’s dedication to evolving with the community’s needs while preserving cultural values.
A major announcement that electrified the crowd was the launch of Pepere Pepe Dum – Season 4, scheduled for November 2026 in Dubai. Organised under the joint patronage of United Loretto Friends Dubai and Ami Ani Amchim, Mangaluru, the upcoming edition will feature the first-ever Grand Mangalorean Brass Band Festival in Dubai. This historic initiative is expected to unite global Mangalorean communities and showcase heritage on an international stage.
Konkan Udkana 2025 concluded as a truly remarkable celebration of togetherness, talent, and Konkani identity. Every volunteer, participant, performer, sponsor, and executive committee member played an instrumental role in turning the vision into reality.
