Udupi to witness the last supermoon of the year on Dec 4

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Dec 4: The Moon will come closest to Earth today as it reaches the perigee point of its elliptical orbit, at an approximate distance of 3,57,200 km — nearly 27,000 km closer than its average distance of 3,84,400 km from Earth.

Due to this proximity, the full moon will appear about 14% larger and its brightness will increase by nearly 24%, making it a spectacular celestial sight for skywatchers.

According to Udupi-based astronomer Dr A P Bhat, this rare occurrence on December 4 will be the final supermoon of the year. He has urged astronomy enthusiasts and the general public not to miss this beautiful view in the night sky.
