Udupi, Dec 1: Udupi women’s police arrested a Right-wing organisation worker for allegedly waylaying and raping a young woman in a secluded area.

The arrested has been identified as Pradeep Poojary (26), a member of the Nairkode unit of Hindu Jagarana Vedike in Perdur. He had allegedly been harassing the woman, pressuring her to marry him. When she refused, she filed a complaint at the Hiriyadka police station. He was arrested earlier in that case and later released on bail.

According to police, driven by the same grudge, Pradeep allegedly intercepted the woman again on November 29 while she was walking through a deserted area. He is accused of threatening her by grabbing her neck and raping her after she refused to marry him.

The survivor informed her family, following which her parents lodged a complaint at the Udupi women’s police station. Police arrested the accused and produced him before court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
