Mangaluru, Nov 29: A disturbing video showing a daughter brutally assaulting her mother within the premises of the Moodushedde gram panchayat (GP) on the outskirts of the city has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread public outrage.
The mother and daughter, who reside in Shivanagara, Moodushedde, were reportedly involved in frequent quarrels. It is said that the mother had previously approached Kavoor police station to lodge complaints regarding these disputes, after which the police had counselled both parties and sent them back.
Recently, the mother began visiting the Moodushedde gram panchayat to file complaints against her daughter. Three days ago, while the mother was at the gram panchayat office lodging one such complaint, the daughter allegedly pushed her. Although the mother retaliated, the enraged daughter then brutally assaulted her mother’s face with a slipper, an act that has been clearly captured in the viral video. The video, recorded by individuals present at the gram panchayat office, has now caused widespread condemnation on social media.
The video also shows a few elected representatives and staff members of the gram panchayat present at the spot. Social media users have accused them of merely recording the incident instead of intervening to stop the assault or informing the police.
Many have expressed that the police should summon the mother and daughter for an inquiry and file a suo motu case against the daughter for publicly assaulting her mother.
No case has been registered so far in connection with the mother–daughter altercation. Mangaluru city police commissioner has stated that legal action will be taken against the individual who recorded and circulated the video with the intention of gaining more views, if anyone comes forward to file a complaint regarding the same.
