M'luru: A J Hospital & Research Centre installs US Hologic imaging systems for women’s health

Media Release

Mangaluru, Nov 28: A J Hospital & Research Centre, long known for adopting leading medical technologies, has strengthened its diagnostic infrastructure with the installation of two advanced and highly specialised imaging systems from Hologic, U.S.A.:

  • A 3D mammography unit with vacuum-assisted breast biopsy capability, and

  • A state-of-the-art whole-body DEXA system.

The Hologic 3D mammography system (digital breast tomosynthesis) delivers high-resolution, layer-by-layer visualisation of breast tissue, enabling improved detection and more accurate characterisation of lesions than conventional 2D mammography.

It also supports enhanced contrast imaging. Integrated with a vacuum-assisted breast biopsy device, the system allows precise, minimally invasive sampling of suspicious areas in the same setting, offering shorter procedure times and improved patient comfort compared with traditional stereotactic biopsy techniques.

The Hologic whole-body DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) system provides highly accurate measurements of bone mineral density and detailed body composition, including fat, lean mass, and visceral adipose tissue, using low-dose X-ray technology. These capabilities support the diagnosis and monitoring of osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and metabolic disorders, and have valuable applications in nutrition, obesity management, and sports medicine.

With these installations, A J Hospital & Research Centre reinforces its commitment to early detection, evidence-based prevention, and patient-centred cancer and metabolic health services for the region.

The facility was inaugurated by Dr A J Shetty, president, Laxmi Memorial Education Trust, on November 28 at 10 am.
