Bengaluru, Nov 24: In a remarkable achievement, Dr R Rangamanju from Bengaluru has secured All India Rank 24 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, emerging as Karnataka’s topper. A medical graduate, he cleared the country’s toughest exam in his sixth attempt, relying largely on self-study rather than formal coaching.
An alumnus of National Public School, Rajajinagar, Dr Rangamanju completed his MBBS at Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute. His interest in civil services was shaped by his late father R Ramesh, an IPS officer who died while still in service. He said his father’s dedication to public service, along with his mother’s constant support, sustained him through years of preparation.

Dr Rangamanju prepared without classroom coaching for both the preliminary and mains stages. He chose anthropology as his optional subject and depended on self-study, peer discussions, and disciplined preparation. He joined a test series to sharpen his writing skills and sought guidance from a private academy only for the personality test. He said the structured feedback he received for the interview helped him improve significantly.
He also said that digital tools and peer learning played a supportive role in his preparation process.
