Manama, Nov 23: Konkan Singers Club one of Bahrain’s oldest expatriate association celebrated Children’s Day with a Konkani elocution competition for children and a Konkani singing competition for both children and adults on November 14 at the Karnataka Social Club Hall.
The programme began with compere Santosh Danthy welcoming the gathering. Sujay Pinto, the president of Konkan Singers Club, delivered the president’s welcome address and invited the gathering to support Konkani and its culture.
The competition was conducted for various age groups. The elocution competition was divided into 3 age groups namely 4 yrs to 8 yrs, above 8 yrs to 12 yrs and above 12 to 18yrs. The competition was judged by prominent public speaker, trainer and coach Roshan Lewis, educationist Dr. Sandhya D’Souza and lyricist, composer and founder of Krisben Music Production Christopher Roshan Lobo
At the end of the elocution competition the audience were served with refreshments and a dance performance was given by the children, choreographed by Eunice D'Souza.
The singing competition was divided into 6 categories namely 4 yrs to 8 yrs, above 8 yrs to 12 yrs and above 12 to 18yrs, above 18 yrs to 45yrs, above 45 yrs and duet category. Duet categories were open to all without any age limit. The singing competition was judged by music teacher and pianist Wilbun Rodrigues, teacher and singing coach Brenda Dias and instrumentalist and vocalist of popular local band - The Pastmasters - Deorn D’Souza.
Both the elocution and singing competition had a winner and a runner up in each category.

All the participants were awarded certificate of participation and the winners and runner up were awarded with the winner’s certificate, trophies and cash prizes.
The programme was wonderfully compered by Santhosh Danthy and ably supported by Niyola Mascarenhas. Avinash Fernandes, the general secretary of Konkan Singers Club, proposed the vote of thanks. In attendance were Fr Vincent Serrao spiritual director of the Konkani community and assistant parish priest of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Bahrain, Nelson Menzes vice president of the Konkani Community, Cletus Rodrigues, president of the Karnataka Social Club, executive committee members, members of the Konkan Singers Club and several benefactors and well-wishers.
The participants were supported with cheers and applause by the wonderful audience. The programme ended with dinner being served to the attendees.
