Children’s Day celebration spreads joy and health awareness at Permannur school

Mangaluru, Nov 21: The department of child health nursing, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, organized a Children’s Day celebration on November 11 at Government Primary & High School, Permannur, Babbukatte under the guidance of Prof Dr Sujatha R. The event aimed to promote child health awareness and bring joy to school children through educational and health-oriented activities. An ophthalmic check-up was conducted for all the school children by the department of ophthalmology, Justice. K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Mangaluru. The screening helped in early detection of vision-related issues among students and health education awareness charts were given to the school.

Stationery items and sweets were distributed to the children. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of students and staff, creating an atmosphere of learning and celebration.

Faculty members Prof Dr Sujatha R, Dr Sharlet D’Souza, Jeevitha Alva, Sheryl Fernandes and Soniya D’Souza were present and actively coordinated the activities throughout the day.

The programme was successful in spreading awareness about child health and vision care among students and teachers. The ophthalmic check-up benefited 95 children, identifying 7 students with refractive error, 2 students with colour vision defect, 1 student with conjunctivitis, and 1 with congenital ptosis and was referred to Justice. K S Hegde Charitable Hospital further evaluation. The event also strengthened community relations and highlighted the importance of preventive health services in schools.
