Aakash Chopra recalls being trolled by Moeen Ali during 2016 India-England Test Series

New Delhi, Nov 21: Former India cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra recently shared a humorous incident from the 2016 England tour of India, revealing how he was once trolled by ex-England all-rounder Moeen Ali.

Chopra, speaking on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel, said the episode occurred while he was working as a cricket analyst for Cricinfo. He had highlighted a weakness in Moeen’s batting against the short ball and suggested a fielding strategy to exploit it during the Chennai Test.

“After I pointed out his struggles against the short ball, Moeen scored a century in that game and shared my stats on social media to troll me,” Chopra recalled. “He was obviously upset. As a fellow cricketer, I told him he didn’t have a problem with my analysis, just my stats.”

Chopra added that Moeen later apologised for the act. “The next morning, Ishant Sharma bowled bouncers with three fielders in the deep. Moeen hit a four and then got out. I felt validated. He apologised afterwards, saying, ‘Sorry. I shouldn’t have reacted. What I said was wrong,’” the former India batter said.

Chopra said the incident was a learning moment, noting that while fans’ trolling is common, being called out by a fellow cricketer is a different experience altogether.
