Bantwal, Nov 21: A woman who entered a textile shop wearing a burqa and stabbed her husband, the shop owner, has been arrested by Bantwal Town police. The accused, Jyothi K T, was produced before the court and has been remanded to police custody for further investigation. Her husband, Krishnakumar Somayaji, sustained injuries to his head, chest, and hand but survived the attack.

According to the complaint, Krishnakumar, the owner of Somayaji Textiles, was seated at the cash counter around 7 pm on November 19 when Jyothi arrived disguised in a burqa, posing as a customer. Speaking in Hindi, she asked if there was cloth available for a newborn baby. While the shop’s saleswoman went upstairs to cut the fabric, a sudden scream was heard downstairs. Jyothi allegedly stabbed her husband with the intent to kill, causing severe injuries and significant blood loss.

A frightened Krishnakumar ran out of the shop, after which Namitha, the saleswoman, rushed him in an auto-rickshaw to a hospital in B C Road. He was later shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for advanced treatment. Quick medical attention helped him escape a life-threatening situation. Based on Namitha’s complaint, Bantwal Town police registered a case.

Krishnakumar and Jyothi had married for the second time in 2010. Jyothi had a son from her first marriage, who died under unnatural circumstances near Surathkal in 2024. Following the boy’s death, marital disputes arose between the couple, leading them to live separately. A separate complaint regarding their domestic issues had already been filed at the town police station. Frequent quarrels had been reported between them, and Jyothi had previously visited the shop and issued life threats. The complaint states that the November 19 attack was a continuation of this pattern, carried out with the intention to kill.

Police have begun a detailed investigation to determine where Jyothi obtained the knife and the burqa, and whether others were involved in the incident. Investigators are probing the motive behind her disguise—whether she planned to stab her husband and escape unnoticed, or if she intended to mislead authorities by shifting blame onto someone else. Police sources confirmed that all angles are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

Jyothi had previously visited the shop and issued life threats to her husband! What happened finally is an intentional act to avenge and eliminate him once for all. She needs to undergo some counselling and must be advised to learn basic norms /awareness/values of being human in the civilized society. Of course other punishment as per law of land. 👍
