Bantwal: Warning sign, signal installed at BC Road circle after fatal accident

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal

Bantwal, Nov 20: In the wake of last week’s tragic accident at the Brahmashree Narayana Guru Circle in BC Road, where three people lost their lives after a car crash, the police department has taken prompt action by installing a yellow warning signal and a ‘keep left’ sign board to alert motorists.

Following the accident, Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police Dr Arun visited the spot, inspected the circumstances, and directed officers to install warning systems immediately. Acting on his instructions, officials set up the yellow signal and the directional signboard at the circle.

However, concerns have been raised about whether these measures will effectively slow down vehicles speeding along the national highway, which has now developed into a four-lane route. Several locals have suggested that installing rubber speed breakers near the circle would be more effective in preventing such accidents.

Although the highway department has installed streetlight poles and lamps at the circle, electricity connection has not yet been provided. The bulbs installed with existing connections are also not functioning.

Meanwhile, residents have demanded the installation of high-mast lights along the road leading to the flyover and at the Bantwal bypass junction. SP Dr Arun has acknowledged the need for proper street lighting and stated that a letter will be sent to the highway department requesting immediate attention to the issue.

Install traffic cameras on traffic signal posts for over speeding, traffic violating vehicles and at sensitive areas with high fines. This will drastically reduce accidents.

warning systems like yellow signal and the directional signboard at the circle can only guide the vehicles but not effective in reducing the speed around the circle unless some speed barkers like humps are made so that drivers are forced to reduce the speed. Best solution is to remove the round about and instal traffic signals. This may also help in some way by reducing usage of fuel to cover entire circle to connect to next road.

Completing one circle or going around to connect to next road might cost added cost on petrol ! Best solution to instal signal controlled connectivity.

Our roads look like Olympic marathon long race fields without any marked lanes. Gadkari should see US roads and do the same here before competing with US roads. Remove the circles instead put signals for more controlled traffic movement.
