Kasargod: Woman killed, four injured as Alto and Thar collide near Muttam on NH 66

Kasargod, Nov 16: A routine journey turned fatal near Muttam, close to Bandiyodu on National Highway 66, on Sunday evening when a collision between an Alto car and a Thar jeep claimed the life of a woman and left four others injured, two critically.

The deceased has been identified as C P Fathimmath Mirjana (28) of Kodi, Machampady in Manjeshwar.

Those injured in the Alto include Hussain Sahadi (34) of Machampady, Zakiya (15), Juman (19) and Abdul Salim (3). Witnesses said the Alto driver “suddenly braked, and the vehicle behind lost control, crashing into it,” triggering the devastating accident.

The crash occurred at approximately 7.45 pm, leaving the Alto severely mangled. The Thar jeep overturned after its driver lost control, though its occupants suffered only minor injuries.

The injured were immediately rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru. The woman who died was a passenger in the Alto.

Traffic on the busy highway was disrupted for some time following the accident, causing chaos for commuters.

Kumble Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
