Fr Denis D'Souza, senior priest of Mangalore Diocese, passes away at 91

Mangaluru, Nov 16: Fr Denis D'Souza, 91, of St Zuze Vaz Home, Jeppu, passed away on November 16. A devoted priest of the Diocese of Mangalore, Fr Denis served the Church with deep faith and commitment for more than six decades.

Born on February 15, 1935, in Thodambila (earlier Modankap), he was the son of Paul D'Souza and Mary Magdalen Noronha. He was ordained on December 4, 1961, marking the beginning of a long and dedicated ministry in the diocese.

Fr Denis served in several parishes, beginning as assistant parish priest in Shirva. He later served as parish priest in Pamdoor, Bondel, Niddodi, Mukamar, Cascia, Surathkal, and Sampige. After retiring in 2010, he resided at the Bishop’s House and later at St Zuze Vaz Home, Jeppu.

The funeral Mass and burial rites will be held on Monday, November 17, at 10 am at St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia.

The Diocese of Mangalore fondly remembers Fr Denis for his simplicity, pastoral zeal, and faithful priestly service. Condolences have been extended to his brother, Fr Valerian D'Souza, and to the bereaved family.
