Mangaluru, Nov 15: Podar International School, Mangaluru, hosted the formal inauguration of its 8th Annual Sports Meet ‘Udaan 2025’ on Saturday with great dignity and enthusiasm. The event was attended by principal Girish Kumar, school management members, staff, students, and chief guest Bhakshith Salian, athletics coach at Khelo India Center & Endurance Academy, Mangaluru.
The ceremony began with the lighting of the Sports Day lamp, symbolising energy, hope, and the spirit of sportsmanship. This was followed by the official declaration of the sports meet open, the hoisting of the school flag, and the singing of the school anthem, ‘We Are Podar’.






































The school also observed a prayer and moment of respect for the renowned environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka, who passed away recently.
In his inaugural address, principal Girish Kumar highlighted last year’s sports achievements and spoke about the increasing importance of sports in a child’s academic development.
He said, “Sports today are as important as any other subject. Parents must change their mindset and understand that a child’s growth is not decided by academics alone. Sports equally shape their future and career.”
Encouraging parents to adopt a progressive mindset, he added, “If we delay, the world moves ahead of us. Either we change ourselves, or the world will change us. We must learn to run like runners, not simply follow others.”
Chief guest Bhakshith Salian emphasised the deeper values that sports instil. He remarked, “Sports is not just about winning medals. It teaches discipline, courage, teamwork, and consistency. The true winners are not always the strongest, but those who put in effort every single day.”
He also thanked teachers and parents for supporting and encouraging young athletes.
To add vibrancy to the ceremony, students presented rhythmic performances using rings, ribbons, and coordinated props, showcasing grace, balance, and creativity. An energetic drill and aerobic display also drew loud applause from the audience.
The event also featured a march-past by the school houses, reflecting discipline, unity, and pride.
The inaugural programme concluded successfully, marking the beginning of Udaan 2025.
