Udupi City Municipality issues directive against feeding stray dogs in public places

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi

Udupi, Nov 5: The Udupi City Municipality has issued a public advisory urging citizens not to feed stray dogs in unauthorized public areas such as roads, drains, school premises, crowded zones, and bus stands. The move comes following several complaints from the public regarding the feeding of stray dogs in various parts of the city.

To regulate the practice, the municipality has identified specific locations where food can be offered to stray dogs in a lawful and organized manner. These include behind Beedinagudde Rudrabhoomi, behind Adi Udupi market, opposite Indrali Rudrabhoomi, near Parkala Welcome Arch, opposite Nittur sewage treatment plant, below the Bharatiya Vikas Trust on Perampalli Main Road, near Raj Fish Mill, near the helipad on Adi Udupi–Malpe Road, turn towards Narayana Nagar in Kakkunje, and near Vijaya Veer Sangha on the Diana Road route in Bailur.

Those wishing to feed stray dogs at other locations must submit a written request to the municipality. Feeding will only be permitted with official authorization and an identity card. The feeders will also bear full responsibility for ensuring that the dogs are vaccinated against rabies and sterilized as part of their obligation.

Municipal commissioner Mahantesh Hangargi further cautioned that dog owners should not abandon their pets or puppies in public spaces, as such actions contribute to the rising stray population. Pet owners are also required to ensure rabies vaccination, sterilization, and attach collars to their dogs.

Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found abandoning dogs or puppies in public areas, the commissioner warned.

Ofcourse, that's the easiest thing to do for the municipality. The reason why dog population has gone this high in Udupi is clearly cos of the municipality people who have never shown any interest to strt animal birth control programs which are in effect in cities like Mangalore,Bangalore etc. Every single time a problem arises the municipality simply says we are going to raise tenders, but till date no action taken. When you don't put efforts, how will you ever get results? Heights of corruption. Most importantly, stop blaming feeders. It's simply because of feeders that dogs are still calm. The day they stop getting food is when all hell will break loose. There's still time, wake up and strt doing ABC programs before it's too late..!!

what the public wants is a lasting solution to the street dogs. Issuing guidelines where to them is not categorized as an initiative (good or bad) . This way their numbers will nor diminish nor disappear. How to eradicate them is very important. It is not impossible. Every problem there is a solution. what we need is governments determination to make the free of dogs or Cattle. Forget about Cats & Rats ! 🐀🐁😺

In the first instance find a lasting solution how to contain stay dogs numbers in streets and the menace of these unruly animals on public. Issuing directives where to feed them is secondary. The administration must come out with clear cut ways to make our streets free of any stray animals.
