Ottawa, Nov 5: The Konkani community of Ottawa came together in joy and devotion to celebrate Monthi Fest 2025, marking the Nativity of Mother Mary. The event, organized by the Ottawa Konkani Association (OKA), drew more than 100 attendees from the growing Konkani community in Canada’s capital.
OKA’s mission is to bring together Konkani families, welcome newcomers, and preserve the community’s rich traditions. Speaking about the significance of the celebration, Arthur Goveas & Dora Goveas shared, “Celebrating Monthi Fest in smaller communities like ours keeps our faith and culture thriving, uniting families in gratitude and devotion to Mother Mary. It reminds us that no matter where we live, our roots and traditions continue to bloom with love and thanksgiving.”

The evening began with a Holy Mass at St Isidore Roman Catholic Parish, Kanata, celebrated by Fr Roshan D’Souza, who travelled from Toronto to be part of the festivities. The celebration continued in the parish hall with a flower procession, honoring Mother Mary in a traditional display of devotion and joy.
Guests were treated to a lively cultural programme featuring dance performances by the youth, and a melodious duet by Arthur Goveas and Sunita Tauro, whose voices captivated the audience.
The entertainment committee kept spirits high with interactive games, while a round of Housie—energetically hosted by middle schoolers—added a touch of fun for both kids and adults.
Dinner featured a delicious spread of traditional Konkani cuisine, catered by Clifford and the dedicated volunteers from the food committee. The evening concluded with an energetic dance session, where guests grooved to Baila tunes and the Masala, wrapping up the night on a joyful note.
The Ottawa Konkani Association extends its heartfelt gratitude to all members, volunteers, and participants whose tireless efforts made this year’s Monthi Fest a resounding success. Special appreciation goes to the OKA organizing committee which includes dedicated community members who are committed to uniting the community and keeping Konkani traditions alive in Ottawa.
