New Delhi, Nov 3: The Indian women’s cricket team, fresh off their maiden ICC title win at the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Wednesday, November 5 sources told.

The team scripted history on Sunday night at a packed DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling, rain-affected final. India posted a commanding 298/7, powered by Player of the Match Shafali Verma’s 87 and Player of the Tournament Deepti Sharma’s 58.

South Africa fought hard, with skipper Laura Wolvaardt scoring a brilliant 101, but Deepti Sharma’s five-wicket haul sealed the win. Her dismissal of Nadine de Klerk triggered euphoric celebrations across the country as Harmanpreet Kaur’s side finally brought home the first-ever ICC trophy for India’s senior women’s team.

Sources revealed that the players and coaching staff, currently based in Navi Mumbai, will fly to New Delhi by Tuesday evening to meet the Prime Minister before returning to their hometowns.

Although no victory parade has been officially confirmed, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia announced a cash reward of Rs 51 crore for the team in recognition of their historic achievement. The reward will be shared among players, support staff, and the national selection committee.

India’s World Cup journey was nothing short of dramatic. After three consecutive defeats in the group stage, the team staged a stunning turnaround — beating New Zealand to qualify for the semifinals and then chasing down a record 339-run target against defending champions Australia.

On Sunday, under the floodlights of Navi Mumbai, the Indian women fulfilled a dream decades in the making — lifting their first-ever ICC trophy before a roaring home crowd, marking a defining moment for women’s cricket in the country.
