Mumbai, Oct 31: Bollywood filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has opened up about her long-standing financial insecurities and the challenges faced by outsiders in the Hindi film industry, admitting that despite her success, she still worries about money.
Speaking on Serving It Up With Sania podcast, hosted by tennis star Sania Mirza, Farah revealed that financial stability remains her biggest concern.

“Till now, I’m insecure about money. For me, I need to be financially secure to relax — that’s the only insecurity I have,” Farah said. “That drive to keep working is always there. We saw our dad go from being very rich to very poor, and for several years, we lived hand to mouth.”
She also pointed out how people today tend to exaggerate their struggle stories for attention. “Nowadays, everyone wants a struggle story. Even those who haven’t really struggled are trying to create one out of something weird. But I’m happy that my kids won’t have one,” she added.
Farah, who has directed blockbusters like Om Shanti Om and Happy New Year, also addressed the resentment outsiders often feel towards Bollywood insiders. “I can understand when people come from outside to Mumbai and have anger towards nepo babies. They’re struggling to pay rent every month, so for them, star kids’ struggles seem very frivolous,” she said.
When asked to choose between choreography and content creation, Farah candidly replied that she would go with the latter. “So, maximum money is in content creation,” she said with a laugh, prompting Sania to joke, “This is coming from a person who has made a Rs 300 crore film!”
Clarifying her stance, Farah added, “Personally, I’ve made the most money in content creation. But if you ask me what I want to do, that would be direction — that’s my thing.”
With her trademark honesty and humour, Farah Khan once again proved why she remains one of Bollywood’s most grounded and relatable voices, both behind the camera and beyond the big screen.
